Jesus Is Lord in Everything but Voting—Right?

© The Very Rev. Dr. Curtis I. Crenshaw, Th.D.

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Phil. 2:9-11 NKJ)

The three expressions—in heaven, on earth, and under the earth—refer to angelic beings and perhaps those who have passed into the presence of the Lamb, to all those on earth at any point in time, and those demonic beings under the earth. It is comprehensive.

We see from these verses that not only is Jesus the medium of worship but also the object of worship. The world hates the name “Jesus” as seen in making fun of it, saying “O Jesus Christ” and not “O Buddha” or something like that. One can pray in public in any name but Jesus; one can pray to “God Almighty,” to Allah, but just don’t pray in Jesus’ name. The reason should be obvious—Jesus is the supreme enemy, which is why Christians, who wear His name, are hated so much.

It seems that at every turn we Christians are being marginalized in our USA culture. Liberals hate us, the sexually immoral despise us with every vile force they can muster and want to murder us, and the culture is being educated in public, godless, government schools not to listen to us, that Christianity is an outdated religion that has a very fallible book full of mistakes and errors. Organizations like the ACLU want us to keep Christ in our private churches, and they want “Caesar” to be lord in the culture. They say keep Jesus out of politics and the public arena, for that belongs to the “neutral” government. The upcoming vote for the president of the USA is to some extent a battle over who is Lord in our society, Satan, or the Messiah who is Jesus the Lord. But we cannot say that the RNC represents all  godly principles; rather, they are, at the moment, just less evil, but should we not want lesser evil than more evil?

But how should Christians engage in the spiritual warfare that is around us every day? Let us look at 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 in the Old Testament.

13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, THEN I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

This applied to the Old Testament people of God, but we are the new Israel of God (Gal. 6:16; Eph. 2:11-22) so it applies to us also. The passage says the covenant people of God who are called by His name (now “Christians”) are to do several things:

  • Humble themselves before God, which means to confess their sins
  • Pray and seek Him
  • And what is often overlooked: “turn from their wicked ways
  • “THEN” He will (notice the order) “forgive their sin, and heal their land”. Forgiveness is the basis for other blessings, and in turn forgiveness is conditioned on turning from our sins, or repentance (We Christians are eaten up with sins; click here to get my book on the Ten Commandments or go to Amazon and enter Curtis Crenshaw, NOT Ten Suggestions.)

Then in 2 Chronicles 20, the enemies of King Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, were coming against him, and they were too many and too powerful to fight. Here is what Jehoshaphat did:

  • He feared and set himself to seek the Lord (v. 3)
  • He invoked the covenant promises (“are not you our God”, v. 7)
  • “If disaster comes upon us . . . we will stand before this temple and in Your presence, and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save” (v. 9)
  • Here is what they prayed: “We have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you” (v. 12)

So, what did Judah do in the face of overwhelming odds? They prayed and worshiped, and they were granted victory. We are not Judah, but we are in covenant with God through the blood of Jesus, and we enter His presence to worship each Lord’s day. It is there, in His holy presence in worship, that we do battle with our enemies. Of course, we also use other human means, such as voting in this election. If the outcome is not what we think is best, we must submit to Him, for His plan will go forward. But WE MUST BE FAITHFUL where we are whatever the outcome. We cannot see the future, but Jesus has determined the future; thus, we must be faithful in whatever He has decided for us, whoever wins the election. There is only one Man who is the answer to all our sins and problems, and that is the One who became human in space and time, who became a slave, ill-treated, who was crucified, died a criminal’s death, resurrected, who in turn knows all the trials we go through because He went through them to conquer for us: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin” (Heb. 4:15 ESV).

But in the New Testament we see something similar as 2 Chronicles 20:

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. (2 Cor. 10:3-6 ESV)

This passage commands us to use our divine weapons, not physical ones, to destroy “strongholds” of Satan. We do so by proclaiming the gospel, by making known the Triune God and the Incarnation of the Son of God, and we can in turn do that by disseminating the word in books, tracts, sermons, voting, praying, helping girls to overcome abortion, etc.

Now the One who was completely obedient must be completely obeyed, for He is LORD! We can see how quickly things can change with the new evidence from the FBI regarding the new found emails. Who knows how that will turn out? If providence goes as usual (who knows!), it may turn out completely different from what anyone thinks! But we know who is in charge; thus, let us do our meager part in repenting,  praying, voting, and trusting in

“Him who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. AMEN.” Ω. (1 Tim. 6:15-16 NKJ)

Response to my last article: “Loving Darkness”

The man who responds is a dear friend and brother  from “down under”.

Thanks Curtis for this latest article. We have the same cursed influence spreading over here. The Victorian government has mandated that a Safe Schools Program must be taught in all government schools by 2017-18, in order to deal with bullying at school. However the chief designer of this program, Roz Ward, a self pronounced Marxist academic at Melb[ourne] Uni[versity] has publicly stated that this program has nothing to do with bullying, but everything to do with changing society so that the homosexual minority becomes normative. Then another Melb[ourne] Uni[versity] academic wants to see pre-schoolkids being taught the transgender rubbish. Family Voice sent a petition of 14000 signatures to the Commonwealth Government urging them to stop funding this Safe Schools program; the government reviewed the program and has called for some radical changes to it promising to cease funding a little later. [Right, I believe that.]

With a national election for both the lower and upper houses of federal parliament due July 2, [2016], the danger is that Labor may win, & if so, the moral filth out of Labor’s sewers will stink all the more.  We pray the coalition (Liberal & National Party coalition) will be returned to power. There is a significant number of evangelicals in the government & some strong conservatives, who though not Christians, are as forthright for the right things as any Christians are.

[Pray for Australia. Pray for the USA. Let the Church at large repent and confess Jesus as Lord.]

Celebration of Sin and the Sovereignty of God

WhiteHouse

It was wicked enough to have a run-away court declare same gender “marriages” legal, but the Whitehouse celebrated it with the rainbow colors. This was, in reality, the whole country shaking its fist in the face of God with middle finger extended.

There are several lessons we must consider from this act of tyranny. First, the supreme law of the land is NOT the Constitution of the USA; rather, it is the law of God. His commandments as revealed in His moral attributes (His moral character) reign supreme. Yet there is a chain of command in governments so that they are supposed to administer justice as defined by the Triune God. God’s authority is attached to governments:

1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. (Romans 13:1-6)

Second, this passage does not give governments the right to invent moral law. Indeed, we humans can no more invent moral law than we can invent the laws of science. In other words, every moral law enacted by man is either an application of God’s law or an act of rebellion; there is no neutrality. The Supreme Court is in rebellion, having challenged the Triune God that it can make its own morality with impunity. No human authority ever has the right to make up any moral aw and hide behind the passage above, thinking that its citizens must obey any law it enacts. The one we obey is the one we worship, and it is idolatry to worship any law but God’s law.

Third, if a citizen breaks God’s law, such as murder or sodomy, God has given the government authority to execute HIS justice. If the government refuses to apply His commandments and punish the violator, that means the government approves of the immoral actions.

Fourth, this further means the whole country is under judgment, not just the individuals who approve and/or disapprove of the sin. Every state in the union—and none has opposed the new definition of marriage—has sanctioned the new definition. Thus, the whole nation is under judgment.

Fifth, how ironic that we in the USA are fighting Islam, but giving them a free hand most of the time in our own country; and if they begin to celebrate Sharia Law, they will execute same sex people.

Sixth, there is already another civil war in our country, between God-hating liberals and those who love the Lord. (Notice I did not say political conservatives; many of them are part of the problem.) It is a spiritual battle with spiritual weapons, which weapons are the Gospel and the written word of God. In the long run, we Christians will win, but we’ll have to face much persecution for a long time. The war has just begun, and it is a fight to spiritual death. The Supreme Court and our states have declared war on the Triune God. Yet, we must demonstrate love to those who promote this new so-called definition of marriage, take an uncompromising stand against their self-destruction, and set up houses where we can administer to those who fall prey to the diseases that go along with such promiscuousness. AMEN. Ὡ

Creation, the Media, and Lordship

bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5)

How many times have I heard media persons say: “But that is a religious statement.” Or, when some atheist debates a theist on TV, he will say: “You can’t use religious statements because they are unscientific.” In other words, man is autonomous and sovereign over his own thoughts and how to interpret the world. There are compartments in our thoughts, and Jesus is allowed in some areas (mainly the church, for now) but never in the culture as a whole.

With secular people, and especially enlightenment thinking people, the Triune God takes second place (or last place) to humanist thought. God has created us in His image, and we are returning the favor.

We can see this in Scott Walker in England recently (he’s running for president of the USA), having to answer a media question “correctly” about evolution. He said something like this: evolutions is “a question a politician shouldn’t be involved in one way or the other.” In other words, he was fearful of their response if he confidently stated: “I am a creationist.” If I were in his shoes, I tell myself I would say, “I just can’t believe in something as unscientific as evolution.” Of course, I would be laughed out of the presidential race. It would seem that the “intelligentsia” require a Creedal answer, the Creed being what I have coined as The Chaos Creed, which may be conceived this way:

“I believe in god the chaos almighty,

random maker of heaven and earth;

but not in Jesus Christ His only Son,

because of the Virgin is not a real birth.”

And notice how embarrassed some Christian scholars have become over Genesis 1:1-2:4, the creation history account. Even some of the best, conservative Christian scholars are intimidated by that passage that allegedly is unscientific. Then the historic theology of the Church has to be further compromised. Who then is Lord over Genesis 1:1-2:4 and its interpretation? It is not the Bible itself, the real Creator, true science, or the historic Church but secular thought. Creation is a watershed doctrine, and if we deny it, here are other dominoes that will fall: Incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, Ascension, and enthronement of Christ as King of the Universe. I read where one scholar (name escapes me) said that if we can get passed the first verse of the Bible (“God created the heavens and the earth.”), all else is downhill. So true.

The Openness of God movement is an example of embarrassed Christians. They are beyond Arminian, not holding to the sovereignty of God in any meaningful way. They say that God only foreknew who would believe, but that He did not determine it. Problem: if God knows all things, then He knows who will believe and it is still certain (but now man determines the certainty). Thus, they need to get rid of a God who knows all things. They say that God is in process, just like us, not knowing all things. Now we’re back to the chaos god ruling all things, ruling our thoughts, even God’s thoughts.

Moreover, the word-faith movement also despises the sovereignty of God. Their whole theology—if one can call it that—assumes that man is in control of his own destiny, and if he has enough faith he can speak positive words into the air and bring prosperity and health. In other words, faith without cash is a dead faith. It one has enough faith, he can even make his own providence.

Most Christians today are Arminian, believing in the sovereignty of God as long as it does not interfere with their plans and “free will”; otherwise, they become angry. I’ve seen otherwise good Christians become red faced and shouting angry if their pretended sovereignty was challenged. These Christians are embarrassed that God predestined His universe, especially evil. But consider that God uses the sin of His creatures to accomplish His goals yet without being the Author of sin:

for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. (Acts 4:24 ESV)

He even determines who will believe:

Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed (Acts 13:48).

Here is what is presented as intellectual and scientific, even though none of these things are true science, which is repeatable and observable:

  • Life came from non-life; life-came from non-life only once since all life is allegedly related.
  • Protozoa (one cell animals) gave rise to Metazoa (many cell animals).
  • Invertebrates (no back bone) gave rise to vertebrates (animals with backbones).
  • Sea animals gave rise to land animals.
  • Molecules in motion just before the alleged Big Bang gave rise to the immaterial laws of science; they also gave rise to the immaterial, invariant, and universal laws of logic that we all use.
  • Moreover, how can the non-personhood of chaos give rise to personhood?
  • Then think how convenient it was to have both male and female evolve at the same time and that each knew how to use their sexual “plumbing” to get pregnant, to carry the baby nine months, and to deliver it.
  • Moreover, though there is variation within a species (Chihuahua to Great Dane), there are no examples of one species becoming a new species.
  • Then consider the complexity of the human body. What parts could we live without until everything evolved to working order? Moreover, as Michael Behe, a micro-biologist, has said in his book (Darwin’s Black Box), there must be an irreducible complexity for everything to work together. In other words, you can’t have part of an eye; it must all be there and functioning.

The point is that once the assumption of chaos enters sinners minds, they think they can do what they please because there is no final judgment. They can create their own meaning. But they are frustrated because the new lord cannot account for persons, for relationships, for new species, for ethics, or any kind of order. To try to create our own order from chaos is to be our own lord. Welcome to the 21st century.

The arrogance of the modern scientist who thinks he is the measure of all things is rebellious to the Triune God. The idea of an alternative view of creation that is really “design” by random chance is so ridiculous that one hardly knows what to say. We are in a war over the minds of creatures, and who will be Lord over our thoughts. As John Dryden once said, who was the 17th century English Poet:

“For those whom God to ruin has design’d,

He fits for fate, and first destroys their mind.”

AMEN. Ὡ

The Republicans Won—So What?

© Rev. Dr. Curtis I. Crenshaw, Th.D.

Two years ago I sent out a pastoral letter saying, “Obama Won—So What?” The issues are the same; namely, we can’t claim a country for Christ just by politicians, especially those who think virtually nothing of the Triune God: “God is not in all his thoughts” (Psalm 10:4). The difference between Democrats and Republicans is only degree, not kind.

Now that the Republicans won by a landslide–and at every level, state, governor, districts for the House, and senators for the Senate–everyone is very optimistic about the future, BUT which Republican winners called on the nation to repent? Which ones made abortion and LGBT THE major issues? These are easily laid aside as “social issues”. The number one issue, Republicans stated, was jobs, money, filthy lucre, the love of it. Baby citizens and sexual self-destruction of the family can wait. Meanwhile, Obama keeps on destroying the nation, even willing to make a nuclear deal with Iran. Since he has been in office, he has been in self-destruct mode: disarming our nukes, scaling back the military, destroying our money so that we’re now a second rate credit risk with the world, and too many things to write.

Some say the mandate—if one can define it—was jobs. Others say it was to stop Obama. But what about righteousness?

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 13:34).

And who defines righteousness? The Triune God does in His law-word, especially the Ten Commandments. Consider these ungodly agendas:

  • Obamacare, the destruction of our health system
  • EPA holding us back from oil progress
  • Public education is without the Triune God and producing illiterates
  • Obama bailed out the banks, but did you get bailed out?
  • Benghazi, the Americans who were allowed to die and the cover-up
  • IRS scandal. In 1989 when our Presbyterian church was attacked by the IRS, we kept telling people and our fellow ministers that the IRS was making tyrannical efforts to attack conservative groups, especially churches, our church. No one believed us; our presbytery basically abandoned us, and no one stood with us. We were tried for 4 ½ months, four and five days a week, six to seven hours a day. We won everything: all counts on all defendants. Now people are beginning to wake up—if it is not too late—about a tyrannous agency of government that can steal your money from your bank accounts without a court order.
  • It took me two years at VA to find out if I had osteopenia. I had a colonoscopy without medication except for a mild sedative that did nothing. I had a kidney stone and went to VA emergency for an x-ray. After waiting all day, they gave me a normal x-ray. I told them that would not work, but they said that is what is required. Now they would make an appointment for the more powerful x-ray, which would be in about six weeks. I said, “I’ll be dead by then from kidney stones.” In about two weeks, my VA primary care physician called to say the x-ray did not show a stone. I said disgustingly, “I told you a normal x-ray would not show it. I had a cat scan at a civilian doctor, and I had a passable stone, which is now gone!”
  • The NSA allowed huge secrets to leak out, and the government is snooping on us, especially online.
  • What is the truth of “Fast and Furious”?
  • What about the key stone pipe line? I had two oil men in my former church who said in a few years the USA would be an exporter of oil if Obama and the EPA would leave things alone.
  • Why does Obama and fellow conspirators want so many illegal aliens to come into the USA. I can assure you it is not out of goodness of their sweet little black hearts. It is for more votes.
  • Obama is promoting LGBT strongly
  • Obama is promoting abortion and Planned Parenthood with fiendish zeal
  • So far, Obama has increased our debt to 18 trillion dollars. A close friend sent me these figures: all the gold every mined in the history of the world comes to 6 trillion dollars, and we’re in debt three times that! It is not mathematically possible to recover. He has stolen the purchasing power of our money. Now at almost 70 years old and no debt, I still have to work to bring in money as my retirement accounts are not large enough to sustain me. Since Obama has been in office, my accounts have shrunk about 12-15% in purchasing power. “Thou shalt not steal.”

But we must remember that the Republicans are not far behind. They have lost their zeal against killing the unborn. Standing up for the family against LGBT is too controversial. Saying “God bless you” is acceptable but saying “The Triune God bless you, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,” is unpardonable. It would blaspheme good atheists; offending God is acceptable. The new president in 2016 should lead the whole nation in repentance with public confession of sin and then attacking the ungodly sins of our nation. Who is our hope and our God, government, or King Jesus? Yet we must sing a new song:

Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth.” (Revelation 5:8-10)

His sovereignty rules now, whether we like it or not. Christians like it.

But don’t misunderstand me. I’m grateful to the Triune God for the new people going to Washington, many of whom are pro-life, pro-family, and fiscally conservative. Let us continue to pray for such people and may we Christians vote God’s righteousness, not our wants. AMEN.

WHAT? Will Houston Censor Preachers’ Sermons for Hate Speech?

(© 2014 Rev. Dr. Curtis I. Crenshaw, Th.D.)

Will Houston officials order Christian ministers to turn over their sermons to be censored for hate speech? Who is King around this planet? Will preachers be so cowardly to submit the word of King Jesus to the tyrant Caesar? But see what the Lord God said in David’s time:

JESUS IS INSTALLED AS KING:

1 Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His Anointed [Messiah], saying, 3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces and cast away Their cords from us.”

4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall hold them in derision. 5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: 6Yet I have set My King on My holy hill of Zion.”

7 “I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (Psalm 2)

In Psalm two, we see the nations rebelling against the LORD and His Messiah, but God rules over them through His Messiah—now. The Lord Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth, now (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5; 5:5). Notice that the Psalm is in four stanzas, and reveals that God’s law is for the nations of the world. In the first stanza, the nations rebel against the Lord and against His Messiah. In the second stanza, God laughs at such rebellion, for He is absolutely sovereign, and has installed His Messiah as King of the world. In stanza three, the Messiah speaks, saying that the Father has given Him the nations to rule. In the final stanza, the nations and leaders are commanded to repent, to kiss the Son, less they perish. Remember that this Psalm was written by King David almost 1,000 years before Christ came.

This Psalm shows there is spiritual warfare regarding who rules the world. The nations of the earth claim that they will rule, and so they rebel against God the Father and His Son, but the Father responds—too bad!—He has already installed His King, the Son, and that the nations must repent He will destroy them. Repent means to turn from sin, and in this Psalm sin is rebellion against the LORD and His Messiah.

WE HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE:

We see the same Messiah as Lord in the New Testament. Consider Romans 10:9:

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

As Greek grammarian Daniel Wallace has pointed out,[1] there are two issues with this verse. First, does it mean “confess Jesus as Lord” or “confess the Lord Jesus”? Wallace says the grammar is clear that it means “confess Jesus as Lord.” Second, what does “Lord” mean? In the context, Paul is quoting Joel 2:32 where “Lord” means the Old Testament LORD, Yahweh, the God of the Jews, and now of the Christians! In other words, the God everyone is to confess, is Jesus!

Caesar or Christ?

Furthermore, why did the Apostle Paul choose the expression “Jesus as Lord”? Was there something in Paul’s culture that needed to be addressed? The history of the expression “Jesus as Lord” was a powder keg.[2] The Roman emperors Augustus (31 B.C.-A.D. 14) and Tiberius (A.D. 14-37) rejected the expression “Lord,” but Caligula (A.D. 37-41) accepted it. The Roman Caesar, Nero (ruled A.D. 54-68), under whom Paul was executed, is described in an inscription as “Lord of all the world.” The title “Lord” was very common both of Nero and of Roman emperors subsequent to him. In fact the same Greek grammatical construction “Nero as Lord” is used in writing on the papyri (paper) and on ostraca (pottery) of Nero’s time. Once a year, all people under Rome’s authority were required to offer a sacrifice and confess “Nero as Lord.” “It was against such a religious claim, which demanded so much of the burdened conscience, that the Christians turned and rejected the totalitarian attitudes of the state.”[3]

Here is the point. The Roman emperors did not mind its citizens worshipping any god they chose as long as once a year they proclaimed the Caesar god as the ultimate Lord, meaning that Caesar was the lord of lords. And the emperors did not think of the divine title “lord” without the implication of obedience and worship, for if this had been so, why did they murder so many Christians for refusing to worship them? The ultimate lawgiver had the right to demand obedience over all other lawgivers. Caesar claimed ultimate lordship, ultimate obedience, and thus the right of absolute obedience, which directly conflicted with the authority of Jesus. To put it bluntly, every law enacted by any authority is an application either of God’s law or an act of rebellion. (If there were ever a time to read this book, get it nowNOT Ten Suggestions.)

Our own government is making the same claim today, not caring what god one worships as long as its citizens give ultimate allegiance and confession to the Caesar. Thus, Jesus allegedly has no jurisdiction in the public arena such as in political elections, in government, in our schools, over the officials we elect, in the laws of sexuality and abortion, or in the forced redistribution of wealth through some taxation that is wrong. (We Christians do believe in paying taxes.) It is allegedly a confusion of Church and state for the Church or for Christians to “force” their morality on society, but it is acceptable for the secularists to force their morality on the Church. They are confining Jesus to an ever-diminishing private Church. It is politically correct to be religiously “neutral” about all religions except Christianity. One can bash Christians and Christianity with approval. Can you imagine the Houston authorities telling Imams to submit their sermons to be censored before they deliver them? Islam believes in the death penalty for LGBT.

The reason Christians are hated is still the same: We recognize no ultimate King but Jesus, which means the government and the public ethics of abortion, sexual disobedience, can be judged by Jesus, which is intolerable today. The ACLU insists that the Jesus God stay out of the public arena under the mistaken guise of separation of Church and state, misinterpreting the Constitution to mean freedom from religion rather than freedom for religion. But the Constitution itself is under, not over, King Jesus and His law. Christians are allowed, for now, to confess Jesus as Lord privately but not publicly. “There is nothing new under the sun.”

The issue, however, is not sincerity but truth. We are tolerant personally, and we are non-violent, loving our enemies, but we are lovingly intolerant regarding the truth of Holy Scripture. Jesus is the only way to God because He said so: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ ” (John 14:6). And this salvation is free for the asking, so why would one turn down a free gift of such magnitude just because it is the only gift that brings salvation. It is unimaginable to say, “I reject the gift because it is the only one.”

There are no generic gods, brothers and sisters, we must stand and fight with our spiritual weapons of the gospel, not with violence! Beware of the wrath of the Lamb, for judgment begins with the household of God (1 Peter 4:17).

WE CONQUER BY THE PREACHED WORD:

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (Rom 10:14)

These words with a line through them indicate not a good translation. What the Apostle Paul means is that when preachers preach the true gospel of the death and resurrection of Jesus the Lord, people are hearing HIM! If they reject the word so preached, THEY REJECT HIM! Moreover, read what the Apostle Paul said about our preaching:

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18).

WE MUST PREACH GOD’S LAW, HIS TEN COMMANDMENTS, AND THE GOSPEL:

That means preaching His morality, such as the sins of our culture (LGBT) and the gracious forgiveness of Jesus the Lord. We must not be cowards (Revelation 21:8). Of course people will not like to hear about God’s gracious commandments, designed to protect us from ourselves. If you don’t order the book above (NOT Ten Suggestions), at least download chapter 2 from the book in pdf. Here is the complete book’s cover:

Bill O’Reilly’s Comments on Our Society

16 May 2014

(Rev. Dr. Curtis I. Crenshaw)

Bill O’Reilly wrote an insightful article recently on his site regarding the brain washing at colleges. Some wonder why this is happening, and Bill O’Reilly reports the problem without giving the cause or the solution. He reports that political correctness regarding certain “social” issues is the norm both on campuses and in the media. I concur that it is happening.

But Holy Scripture gives the cause: it is the unconverted person’s hatred of God and love for his sins, and the two necessarily go together. In other words, no one is morally neutral regarding the Triune God: either one loves Him or hates Him—there are no other options. In Romans 1:18-28, written about 1900 years ago, we see that those who reject Him have an agenda. Here is part of the passage:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth(Romans 1:18 ESV).

One message of this passage is that the sin one loves is not embraced because one’s logic led him to it but because one enjoys it; therefore, he seeks to justify it. In other words, what one desires drives the will, and the mind then seeks to justify something one is committed to. As the Apostle Paul further stated:

22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting(Romans 1:22-28, NKJ).

Three times Paul says God gave them up to their passions so they could justify themselves and then meet Him in the judgment. The only cure is to repent of those sins and bow to Jesus as Lord and Savior who will forgive and change the desires (Acts 10:43).

In another place of Holy Scripture, we read:

18 He who believes in Him [Jesus] is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed(John 3:18-20 NKJ).

Notice from this last verse that those who are committed hate to sin the light; that is, the righteousness of God and His commandments. We can see that hatred manifests itself with extreme behavior when they face Christians in society, using four letter words, screaming and spitting in our faces, throwing things at us, urinating on us, and so forth. It is not us they really hate but the Triune God and His righteousness. Jesus said to His disciples:

18 If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.(John 15:18-19 NKJ)

We Christians should recognize what is driving the “arguments” for embracing deviant behavior, especially sexual behavior of gays and lesbians. It is not intellectual objectivity; rather, it is hated of the one God, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and hatred of His righteousness as revealed in the Ten Commandments. It is subjective desires that drive them. Yet we must not approach them with a holier than thou attitude, for we have our own issues, and save by the grace of God, there we go. As Paul further states, we owe them the Gospel and Christian love (Romans 1:14-16). AMEN.
