Porn, Politics, Taking God’s Name in Vain

© Curtis I. Crenshaw 16 July 2015

Taking God’s Name in vain is much more than using slang words with “God”, “Jesus”, or something like that. According to One News Now, Jimmy Carter said that last week that Jesus Christ would give his blessing to same-sex “marriage,” adding that Jesus would also support some abortions. How does Carter know those things? If he is wrong—and he most emphatically is!—he is attributing to God’s character what is wrong, which is taking God’s name—“Jesus”—in vain. Here is what God says about that precious name:

9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of JESUS every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Phil. 2:9-11)

And here is what God in the flesh has said about abortion:

18 Jesus said, “’You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 19:18-19)

And here is what God said about abortion in the Old Testament:

11 Deliver those who are drawn toward death,

And hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.

12 If you say, “Surely we did not know this,”

Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it?

He who keeps your soul, does He not know it?

And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?

(Proverbs 24:11-12)

Moreover, here is what the Lord of glory has personally said about marriage:

4 And He answered and said to them,

“Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’

5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother

and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?

6 So then, they are no longer TWO but ONE flesh.

Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

(Matthew 19:4-6)

Seems like it was St. Augustine who said that God created us in His image and we return the favor. The problem is that each person wants a god like himself to worship, one who approves of his own immoral standards.

Thus, Jimmy Carter thinks that he can remake the Lord Jesus each time the political winds blow counter to Him. So do most people.

Now Hustler Magazine founder Larry Flynt’s recent endorsement of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is not only raising eyes across political lines, but hopes on the Left. When Bill Clinton entered the Whitehouse, the war on porn was scaled back to a mere trickle. Recall the scandal of the young intern with Bill. Hopes are the same for loose laws on porn if Hillary gets in the Whitehouse. Thus, from Reagan’s administration, we’ve moved from strong war on porn, on abortion, on LGBT, and so forth, to today where these sins are just winked at, and in many cases, upheld as minor and innocent. We are told, “Why can’t any two adults do what they please in private?” They can, but then they face the judgment, not only with problems in relationships and physical diseases now, but especially at the Last Day, which everyone laughs at.

The sins today are not only winked at, but gloried in. Recall what the great Apostles to the Gentiles said in Romans 1:18-28 in the context of lesbianism and homosexuality:

who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them (Romans 1:32 NKJ).

We are now in hand-to-hand combat against the ungodly forces that Satan leads. He has his seed, and leads them to do as he pleases:

and “escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will” (2 Tim. 2:26 NKJ).

Recall what the Apostle John said in 1 John 3:10:

By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother. (1 John 3:10 ESV)

Moreover, John continues:

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. (1 John 4:1-6 NKJ)

Let us fight the good fight of faith and conquer in the ultimate name, Jesus, the forces and personalities of evil by spreading the Gospel and living in His name. AMEN. Ὡ

Celebration of Sin and the Sovereignty of God

WhiteHouse

It was wicked enough to have a run-away court declare same gender “marriages” legal, but the Whitehouse celebrated it with the rainbow colors. This was, in reality, the whole country shaking its fist in the face of God with middle finger extended.

There are several lessons we must consider from this act of tyranny. First, the supreme law of the land is NOT the Constitution of the USA; rather, it is the law of God. His commandments as revealed in His moral attributes (His moral character) reign supreme. Yet there is a chain of command in governments so that they are supposed to administer justice as defined by the Triune God. God’s authority is attached to governments:

1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. (Romans 13:1-6)

Second, this passage does not give governments the right to invent moral law. Indeed, we humans can no more invent moral law than we can invent the laws of science. In other words, every moral law enacted by man is either an application of God’s law or an act of rebellion; there is no neutrality. The Supreme Court is in rebellion, having challenged the Triune God that it can make its own morality with impunity. No human authority ever has the right to make up any moral aw and hide behind the passage above, thinking that its citizens must obey any law it enacts. The one we obey is the one we worship, and it is idolatry to worship any law but God’s law.

Third, if a citizen breaks God’s law, such as murder or sodomy, God has given the government authority to execute HIS justice. If the government refuses to apply His commandments and punish the violator, that means the government approves of the immoral actions.

Fourth, this further means the whole country is under judgment, not just the individuals who approve and/or disapprove of the sin. Every state in the union—and none has opposed the new definition of marriage—has sanctioned the new definition. Thus, the whole nation is under judgment.

Fifth, how ironic that we in the USA are fighting Islam, but giving them a free hand most of the time in our own country; and if they begin to celebrate Sharia Law, they will execute same sex people.

Sixth, there is already another civil war in our country, between God-hating liberals and those who love the Lord. (Notice I did not say political conservatives; many of them are part of the problem.) It is a spiritual battle with spiritual weapons, which weapons are the Gospel and the written word of God. In the long run, we Christians will win, but we’ll have to face much persecution for a long time. The war has just begun, and it is a fight to spiritual death. The Supreme Court and our states have declared war on the Triune God. Yet, we must demonstrate love to those who promote this new so-called definition of marriage, take an uncompromising stand against their self-destruction, and set up houses where we can administer to those who fall prey to the diseases that go along with such promiscuousness. AMEN. Ὡ

Obama’s America: Unmaking the America Dream

Dinesh D’Sousa wrote, Obama’s America: Unmaking the American Dream, published this year, 2012, which is a follow up to his movie documentary: 2016: Love Him, Hate Him, You Don’t Know Him, which is the second highest cash documentary ever done. The book is hard cover, little over 200 pages with over 20 more pages of documentation as end notes. D’Sousa says that he has changed his mind about several things since the movie came out so don’t think if you’ve seen the movie you have his latest version.

I don’t read many books on politics as they get on my nerves, but this year I’ve read several because this national election seems to be so important. This is an easy read and has a section with color pictures of Obama and his relatives. His basic thesis is that Obama is very intelligent, not a bungling politician, but one who knows what he wants. It is what he wants that concerns D’Sousa. After reading the book (every word), the summary on the back page gives the gist of the book:

Obama is not merely the presiding instrument of American decline, he is the architect of American decline. He wants America to be downsized. He wants Americans to consume less, and he would like to see our standard of living decline relative to that of other nations. He detests America’s traditional allies, like Britain and Israel, and seeks to weaken them; he is not very worried about radical Muslims acquiring a nuclear bomb or coming to power in countries like Tunisia and Egypt. He is quite willing to saddle future generations of Americans with crippling debt; he has spent trillions of dollars toward this end, and if he had been permitted, he would have spent trillions more. He has no inclination, and has no desire, to protect America’s position as number one in the world. . . . The strength of my thesis is that it is completely congruent with who Obama is and what he does. We don’t have to assume that he is always getting results opposite to what he intends; we simply have to see that he intends the results he is getting. He emphasized in his inauguration speech his goal of “remaking America”―and he is doing it, recognizing that in order to remake America he must first unmake America.

D’Sousa’s delves into Obama’s childhood, demonstrating that he was taught from his early years that America was evil and that it was a country that engaged in colonialism, forcing its will on other nations only to extract their wealth from them. Obama’s view of wealth is Marx’s or socialist, which means that if one person prospers another person must suffer. It is what I call the see-saw view: if one side goes up, the other side necessarily goes down. So when you hear Obama talking about those evil rich people who need to pay “their fair share,” you must understand that the only way one can become rich is allegedly by expoliting others. So to keep the rich from exploiting others, he promotes covetousness (transfer payments to others) by exploiting the rich. Thus it is not a matter of exploiting, but who is exploiting whom and for how much.

Rather, the more biblical view is that some are very productive and create jobs thereby for others. In other words, we have productive citizens in an age of liberal guilt manipulators. The biblical view is that of the tide coming in: those who are productive create jobs and lift all the boats. The see-saw view is that of the mob: if you don’t buy our protection, we’ll beat you up and take your money. With that view, violence indeeds creates a see-saw, for the mobster steals from the productive (one side goes up) and redistributes to the unproductive, himself (the other side goes down). The productive view would be a Steve Jobs (proverbial last name) who innovates and creates jobs, lifting all the “boats” who work for him or buy his stock. The theft view is transfer payments, taking from those who are productive, thereby taking money that could create jobs, and giving it to those who will not work, thereby taking away incentive to work. (We are not opposed to helping the sick, the helpless, but there is a better way to do so than by theft. It is voluntarism.)

Now let’s ask a tacky question: Is Obama really a nice guy who is just misguided? Is his heart in the right place? Recall from the book of Daniel that there are often―if not always―evil persons behind those in political power, referred to as evil angelic beings. I would venture that most of the time the leaders are unaware of such. Let us do a quick survey of the Ten Commandments to see how Obama measures up:

  • First Commandment: no other gods, but Obama promotes any religion but Christianity and attacks Christians with vigor, such as mandating that we pay for abortions
  • Second Commandment: worship nothing in creation (no carved images), but Obama promotes himself and big government as the answer to all problems (“Our father who are in Washington, give us this day or daily bread”)
  • Third Commandment: don’t take God’s name in vain, but Obama says what he knows “God” (whoever that is, the generic god, you know the one) thinks. Attributing to God that which is false is attaching to His Name lies.
  • Fourth Commandment: Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy, but Obama does not worship the One and only Triune God and will not even honor the Day of Prayer or have chapels.
  • Fifth Commandment: honor father and mother, but Obama thinks children are owned by the state and should be brought up in its schools. The idea is to honor the state’s authority, not the God-given parental authority. Moreover, according to this commandment, the parents are “father and mother,” not “father and father” or “mother and mother.”
  • Sixth Commandment: do not murder, but Obama believes and promotes the death of children, even voting in Congress to destroy the little babies at birth, sucking their brains out. With his view of abortion, there are fewer babies to honor parents. Moreover, what is one to think of the death of our ambassador and other Americans in Benghazi, Libya?
  • Seventh Commandment: do not commit adultery, but Obama led the Democratic Party to adopt same gender “marriages.”
  • Eighth Commandment: do not steal, but Obama promotes such with his transfer payments.
  • Ninth Commandment: do not bear false witness, but look at the negative ads against Mitt Romney where he is called a liar, one who would kill the elderly, and other such things.
  • Tenth Commandment: do not covet, but Obama’s whole economic platform is based on covetousness and envying the rich, and “covetousness is idolatry” (Col. 3:5).

Do you still think Obama is just a sincere man who is misguided? How can one be at war with all Ten Commandments by accident? He may not be consciously aware of this spiritual war, but nevertheless he is a willing party. His agenda demonstrates that there is indeed a conspiracy, one where he and other political leaders think they can overthrow the kingdom of the Son of God, but here is what the Triune God has said:

1 Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His [Messiah], saying, 3 “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. (Psalm 2:1-4)

It is total, wicked rebellion to think you can win a war against God Almighty.

Finally, we Christians must be cautious that we do not identify the kingdom of God, the Church, with the politics and the power in Washington. I get the distinct idea from some that we stand or fall according to who is in the oval office. We already have One in the Oval Office, who rules the whole world, who is absolutely sovereign over everything that happens, including you and me and all politicians. They may convince themselves that they are in charge; we know better. He said: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” There is not one molecule in the entire universe that King Jesus does not have dominion over, both now and forever. He is the One we must fear; not some arrogant politician. Every knee will bow to Jesus, either now voluntarily, or at the Last Day involuntarily (Phil. 1:5-12). The initial choice is ours, the controlling choice is His. AMEN.

Postscript: Does D’Sousa have moral problems? He has resigned from the Christian college, Kings College, as the president. I generally don’t pay attention to rumors or charges against Christians, especially in this case. Obama would like nothing more than to discredit D’Sousa. But when World Magazine, which is a conservative and a well documented magazine, has stated that such problems exist, I at least listen. D’Sousa denies the charges, but he did resign. I know that one is considered innocent until proved guilty. I don’t think his innocence or guilt affects the content of the book, for it seems to be well researched, though I admit that the kind of research he does is not in my area. But if you take D’Sousa’s model that Obama thinks of the USA as a colonial bully that needs to be tamed, it seems to fit. D’Sousa is especially sensitive to attacking America because he immigrated here from India. He loves this country and does not want to see it downsized. I’m sure we agree.

Difference between American Independence and French Revolution

August, 2012, by the Rev. Dr. Curtis Crenshaw

In the 1770s before the defensive war for Independence, John Wesley wrote “A Calm Address to Our American Colonies,” in which he invoked the idea that we should submit to the governing authorities as ordained by God. An anonymous person responded with “A Constitutional Answer to Wesley’s Calm Address,” accusing Wesley of  plagiarism as well as a gross misunderstanding of the Constitutional law that bound the Colonies and England, that such law had been sorely abused by England, thus nullifying the agreement. Then I’ve added a third section on the “Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrate,” which explains how we did things correctly to declare ourselves independent of abuse, and how that doctrine says the law is king (God’s law, that is), and denies that the king is the law. In other words, there is no divine right of kings to do as they please, but like everyone else, they are under God’s law. Please click here to get the pdf version of the whole thing.

The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House

I rarely read a book that is solely on politics, but this past Sunday a lady at church said she had read this well researched book. Thus, Monday I went to Barnes and Noble, and they had it on sale. I read it yesterday. It is a very easy book to read while still being very informative.

The author Edward Klein interviewed 200 people and read many books to give us this inside picture of the real Barack Obama. It is very revealing. Klein is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair, the former editor-in-chief of the New York Times Magazine, former foreign editor of Newsweek, and he has written many other books.

Two endorsements are Donald J. Trump, who says the book is “the best I’ve read on how Barack Obama is wrecking our country.” Then Dinesh D’Souza, the Christian apologist and president of The King’s College and bestselling author, states, “This is a racy, entertaining, informative book that illuminates aspects of Obama and his team that have not been previously reported.”

The book is timely, coming out just before the election in November, and yet with enough time for it to make an impact.

He paints a picture of Obama as having a Messianic complex, very thin skinned, and his wife Michelle as being domineering with an explosive temper.  He says that Obama’s campaign this time around will be to attack his opponent unmercifully, with lies and innuendos, trying to create fear in voters regarding Romney and the Republican party, anything to take the focus off his failed record. Moreover, I would add that Obama will campaign with generic statements, for he has much to hide, and with generic statements he can fill in the blanks–or not–later to say, “See, I said I would do this.” David Axelrod is the mastermind behind this, much like he created the first campaign of “change”.

Here is Klein’s summary at the end:

“To win reelection in 2012, Barack Obama must divert the country’s attention from his record of incompetence and amateurish. He doesn’t want to remind people that America lost its triple-A rating credit rating on his watch–a downgrade that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina called a firing offense.

“Republicans will have to remind them.

“Obama doesn’t want to remind people that he increased the national debt by nearly $5 trillion–the most rapid increase in debt under any president.

“Republicans will have to remind them.

“Obama doesn’t want to remind people that he pushed through a bill that includes more than a trillion dollars in new healthcare spending and contains a 4.5 percent tax increase.

“Republicans will have to remind them.

(skipping part of the summary)

“Obama doesn’t want to remind people that he was for lower taxes before he was for higher taxes; that he was for forcing Catholic-affliated institutions to provide contraceptive and abortion insurance before he was against forcing them to go against their religious principles; that he was for removing terrorists from Guantanamo before he was against it; that he was for bringing the country together before he was for dividing it; that he was for a grand bargain with the Republicans over the debt ceiling before he was against it; that he was for energy independence before he rejected the Keystore Pipeline; that he was in favor of extending an olive branch to the mullahs in Iran before he was against it. . . .[I add, before he took out Osama ben Ladin.]

“Republicans will have to remind America that Barack Obama is The Amateur.”

Every point of this summary is documented in the book.  Get this one and read it soon as the election is coming up.
